Hiroshi Taruta Solo Exhibition “Light, reimagined”

HULS Gallery, based in Tokyo and Singapore, which promotes Japanese crafts globally, is set to hold the first solo exhibition of ceramic artist Hiroshi Taruta in Hong Kong.

Based in Seto, a renowned area for Japanese ceramics, Hiroshi Taruta creates porcelain works using a technique known as “hotaru-de,” which allows light to pass through the ceramic. While the technique generally involves filling dot-like perforations with transparent glaze, Taruta has taken on the innovative challenge of creating a new style called “linear hotaru-de,” which combines flowing openwork lines with refreshing seihaku-ji glaze. His works are bound to captivate not only pottery enthusiasts but also those with a keen interest in art.

This exhibition will showcase new works that have yet to be presented in Japan, marking a new creative chapter for the artist. It offers visitors the opportunity to witness the beauty and possibilities of Japanese craftsmanship.
